Craig Thomas is Talking Spot

Q & A with Craig

Craig Thomas, one half of The Craig and Kitty Morning Show on 102.7 WGNI, will be appearing at the North Carolina Spot Festival on Sunday afternoon. He took time from the microphone to answer questions from the Topsail Advertiser about the Festival and any other silly thing we asked him.

Topsail Advertiser:
Due to your smooth radio delivery, many people don’t know that you’re an Eastern North Carolina native. Are we correct to assume this won’t be your first Spot Festival?

Craig Thomas: I’ve been attending the festival since I was a mere minnow.  Since reaching “keeper” size, I have mc’d the Spot Queen and Princess pageants and have been in a judge as well over the years.

TA:
Why isn’t Kitty coming with you? Is it because she can’t keep her hands off of your Spot?

CT:  a.  Her ankle bracelet won’t allow her to leave New Hanover County.

b.  Sheriff Carson’s restraining order.

c.  She is still contagious.

TA: Your co-worker, Sheila Brothers, is known for her antics during her public appearances  - like challenging male body-builders to push-up contests. Will you be performing any amazing physical feats for the people of Hampstead during your visit - like, say, juggling Sea Turtles?

CT:
I can bone with the best of ‘em… fish that is.

TA: This year, you are celebrating (I assume) your 20th year on the air at WGNI. This is also the 45th year for the Spot Festival. Can you find an interesting correlation between the two? Because I can’t.

CT: Well, we are both traditions and when we are cookin’, the air is permeated for miles and miles with something special!  Mmmm!  Can you smell it now?

TA:
You once told someone (Me - when I worked for one of your sister stations) that your  autobiography will be titled “I Don’t Do Mornings.” This begs many questions. A) Why do you do a morning show? B) When are you going to thank the Festival Committee for scheduling your appearance in the afternoon?  And C) Where will you find voice-talent for the audio version of your book?

CT: A. The actual quote and title was “I Am Not A Morning Man” because by nature I am a night owl.  I still can’t go to bed until after 11 or 12 every night at the earliest.  Having to get up early makes me surly and do things I might not do otherwise.  That explains what happens on the show or at least why. B.  Consider it done. C.  Know anybody good? They have to have a deep voice and Kitty has refused.

TA:
There will be a lot of live music being performed during the Spot Festival. Since you were once voted the “Coast’s Best Singer of 1988,” is  there any chance you might take the stage and turn the Spot Fest into a Soul Fest?

CT:  Again you misquote.  I was the “Crystal Coast’s Hottest Entertainer” and if I were to take my act to the stage it would have to have a pole.

TA:
Finally. What kind of free stuff will you be giving away?

CT: Beach bags!  With their cool mesh design they are great for catching feeder fish in the shallows.  That is if I can pry them from the hands of our promotions department. They are quite stingy and I have to beg or steal things for giveaways. They don’t like us on air types.

Look for Craig at the Spot Festival, but please don’t direct him towards any poles.
